Series of ONE's

As many of you know we arrived safely and in one piece to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Then we made the six-hour trip to our home in Hawassa, Ethiopia.  It's been eye-opening to see the development in this area over the last year, yet to a greater degree the development of the ministry at Ebenezer Grace Children's Home (EGCH).

ONE family.

We are staying with our friends and co-laborers the Ayele family.  In all there are eight kids (ages ranging from seven months to eight years), in addition to the four adults staying in a home together.  There are also 27 orphans at the children's home (located at a different site).  We are one big happy family. :)

Please PRAY that we would be a great encouragement to the family.

Please PRAY for the cultural and language acclimation for our family.

ONE gone... ONE to go.

EGCH had its first adoption.  Miret (two-year old girl) has been adopted by a young Dutch family serving in Ethiopia.  In addition to Miret, Yakob (two-year old boy) is having his paperwork processed to join their family as well.  I'm sure they will be missed much... but what a blessing to see them move into their new family.

Please PRAY for their transition into this new family, and for ALL the children at EGCH.

ONE big trip.

A day after we arrived, Ed Compean (missionary serving in Kenya), arrived for a short visit.  He is covering the ministry at EGCH and the Ayele's for CC Magazine.  He has been a great encouragement to us all.

Tomorrow (Friday)... myself (Shaun), Argaw, Ed, and another friend... will head on a 5 day/18-hour trek to the Hamer region of Ethiopia.  Some of the children at EGCH are from that area, and were considered outcasts according to cultural customs.  We will be staying with another friend who was previously an outcast, and now a person of influence in that area.  My first week here... I will have the opportunity to stay with a tribal group. :)

Please pray for safe travel.

Please pray for open doors for ministry and open hearts to receive.

Please pray for the love of Christ to be evident across barriers.

Please pray for our wives and children that will be back in Hawassa.

Thanks so much for your continued love, prayers, and support.
We will post pictures soon...

All the best in Jesus,
The Havelaars

  3. So good to read these news! =)
Thank You Lord for such wonderful beginning for the Havelaar family in Ethiopia and thank You for all the amazing things You have planned for them. Please bless and protect Shaun and the team traveling to the Hamer region - guide them with Your wisdom and understanding, may they be Your hands, feet and lips carrying the Gospel, the Word of Life to them.
Bless and protect Megan and Rachel staying back home with the kids, all the Mommas and kids at EGCH, and bless the little ones being adopted into this Dutch family.
Glory to You for saving these children and placing them in the care of Your servants. Glorify Your name by providing for their needs and even for further development to provide a home for many more children. Amen.
We love you guys so much and looking forward to more news and pictures, and often ;)))

Much fruit abounds from your family from wherever you go and whatever you touch. I am enjoying this harvest this year because of the seeds you planted.
