Jude Henry Havelaar has arrived!
Birthday: January 28th, 2011
Time: 12:41am
Weight: 8lbs 3oz
Height: 20.8 inches
For those who want to know, here's the story:
The doctor had moved my due date up to January 27th and wanted me to come for my routinely check up and see where things were at with the little man. We packed my bags in the car just in case, but I wasn't really convinced he was coming this soon. I was feeling contractions over the past few days, but nothing consistent so I was sure he would just see me, send us home, and tell us to call when things really got going. However, when he did see me, at around 11am that morning, he said that my amniotic fluid wasn't clear and that he thought it would be best for the baby if he came out sooner rather than later. He decided to admit me to the hospital right then and told me that a little later he would go ahead and brake my water. I was shocked to think okay, this is really it! Especially because Shaun was in the waiting and had no idea what was taking place!
So Shaun got the news, got my bags from the car, and we went into the delivery room. I was starting to feel contractions more consistently at this point. A little while later the doctor came in broke my water, and put me on a little Pitocin. After that the contractions really started coming. Shaun was great and so supportive! He let me squeeze the heck out of his hand every time I felt a big one coming! I had a midwife and she was also great!
After a few hours of laboring, probably around 8pm by now, the doctor came in and said the baby hadn't quite dropped yet. Shaun and the midwife got me up and moving around to help get the head down towards to the birth canal. After a few more hours the doctor said that he dropped some but not enough. He had me push a few times, but nothing. At this point the contractions were very close together but the doctor didn't know how long it would take or even if the baby would fully drop down. So at 11:30pm they decided to go ahead and preform a C-section. I was awake the whole time and at 12:41am little Jude arrived into the world.
I have to say that moment was one of the most amazing moments of my life! To finally see and hear the little guy who had been rolling, kicking, hiccuping inside me for the past 9 months was a moment Shaun and I will never forget! We were filled with such thanksgiving and unexplainable joy to have this person enter our lives, and God gets all the glory! The Hebrew root word of 'Jude' means 'to praise, to give thanks, to celebrate'. Shaun and I are truly praising God everyday for blessing us with this precious little gift!
I did have to stay in the hospital for 5 days after to recover. During this time Shaun was not allowed to see me or the baby:( the flu has been going around Hungary and they weren't letting any visitors into the hospital. That was definitely hard on both of us, but now we are home and loving every minute of being Jude's mommy and daddy. He is such a good baby!
Thanks everyone for your prayers, they were definitely felt! Jude is so lucky to have such amazing friends and family in his life!
Please continue to pray for me as I heal from surgery, for Shaun as he balances teaching, being the Bible College registrar, being a new dad, and taking care of me as I recover. As well as for Jude, that he would continue to grow and be healthy.
All the best in Jesus,
Shaun, Megan and Jude
"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well." Psalm 139v13-14
Congratulations, Shaun and Megan. It sounds like it was a difficult labor with many surprises, but the grace of our Lord is obviously upon you! You are rejoicing and praising God for everything. I am so happy for you, and proud of Jesus in you making this all possible. May God's grace and blessings be upon you as you make this transition into ministry in this new semester, now as parents. Love, in Christ, Elysia
