thanksgiving by megan:
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! Know that Shaun and I are so thankful for you, and so blessed to have you in our lives! We had a blessed Thanksgiving here in Hungary. The kitchen made a special dinner for us. Some friends and I made real pumpkin pies for everyone. The weekend was a holiday for the students. They had Friday and Monday off to travel, and most of the Hungarian students were able to go home.
Shaun and I spent the weekend here, which was very nice and relaxing, especially since it snowed the night after Thanksgiving! Even though I’m from Colorado--where I’ve seen my share of snow--I still look forward to it every winter. It's probably because it reminds of home. And seeing everything covered in white is so beautiful! Shaun, on the other hand, thinks differently than me. I was reminded of this verse over Thanksgiving...
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4v6-7
I realize how I’m constantly learning to give thanks in everything, which is a lot easier to say then do! But how good of a God we serve who wants us to bring all of our junk, our desires, our wants, our hurts, our joys, our needs to Him and in exchange He gives us perfect peace that we can’t even begin to understand. It’s definitely a choice that I have to make, to go to Him or to not, and I will tell you right now that going to Jesus is better.
speakers week by shaun:
I'm still learning. Jesus reminded me of that during speakers week (and continues to). Learning doesn't always happen in the ways or timing that I want it to. (bummer) I continue to learn with expectation.
2 bible passages have spoken to me most then, and since:
"Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4v11-13
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11v28-30
The apostle Paul didn't learn overnight. His ability to be content in extreme circumstances was wrapped in Jesus' strength, not his own resolve. And as I'm yoked (linked, going in the same direction) to Jesus, I'm called to learn from Him... my place of rest.
I'm a learner. That's His expectation of me--to learn from Him. A quote from a friend, Jeff Stewart, who came and shared for speaker's week:
"Jesus can change everything, without changing anything."
May the reality of (or need for) Jesus in our lives change us.
one more thing...
As many of you've heard, we won’t be heading to the States this Christmas, but we hope and pray you all have a blessed Christmas season! We do plan on going to the States for a visit from May to the middle of June, we’ll keep you posted as the time gets closer! Also, my pregnancy has been going great so far. Our baby boy is growing and moves around so much! Shaun and I are getting very excited to meet our little guy in about 9 weeks! Thanks for praying for me and the baby and please keep doing so.
prayer requests: (these will be updated under the "prayer" section/tab)
Praise the Lord for sending many students out after this semester to serve Him throughout Europe, the States, and the world!
